Apparently I spoke too soon on the open office front. I don't know what the heck is going on but it either doesn't like my laptop or my laptop doesn't like open office.
It worked fine yesterday but today it crashed in the middle of me working on an article and won't start up again. I'm trying to fix it but I just keep getting more and more frustrated with it. Maybe Santa will bring me a newer laptop for Christmas this year.
At least I can still research and just make notes by hand in a notebook.
Open Office v.3 has been released finally. I did the beta with it for a bit but I had a few issues with the performance so I've been waiting for the finally release. I just got it installed about an hour ago.
So far the main improvement I've found is the language tool. This tool helps you with any minor grammar mistakes that you may have made on top of your spelling mistakes. It is a tool that I have a real need for. I used it on one of my current works in progresses and man did I see a lot of of silly mistakes.
For example, I can see where in the document I was when I was either think or distracted because I add an extra space when I start typing again.
The language tool will help me see where I need to work on my skills as a writer because I know my grammar is very rusty.
I'm off to run all my other w.i.p files through the language tool now. Then when I go back to them I'm not worried about my inner editor causing problems and wasting time.
For some reason every time I try to launch StorYBook it crashes my laptop. It's kind of odd because it worked fine a couple days ago when I last used it. So I'm not sure if it's a laptop problem or a software problem. I'm gonna have to ask my tech guy to look at it.
In other news it's pretty windy around my place right now. We had make sure everything on the back deck and front porch that could blow away was either put in the shed or secured. I've learned my lesson when it comes to high winds. So I guess soon the rain is going to come. Which is fine I guess.
I was planning on working and then having a mini movie marathon with the family tonight.
Now I just have to figure out what to make for dinner.
It feels very hot in my house right now but I'm avoiding turning on the air conditioner. I'm hoping that it will either start to rain soon or a breeze will start coming in the windows to cool things down. I'm not a big fan of the air conditioner and even though it can be helpful on the really, really bad days I try not to turn it on too much.
So I've worked on a few articles, tried working on one of my story ideas, and enjoyed some time with my family in our backyard. All in all this has been a good weekend so far.
Right now I'm installing Open Office 3 beta so I can try a few new extensions that will come in very handy and I want to help the project out. Open source software is awesome and I'll do anything I can to help spread the word and make it better. Although I haven't made the switch to Linux yet I'm seriously considering it.
I hope you all have safe and enjoyable long weekend, or what's left it anyway.

Not to whine but being with my mp3 player is really messing with my flow. I'm used to writing with music on and because of the massive amount of music I've ripped from my C.D collection I don't keep mp3s on my laptop computer. They're all on the desktop which has a much bigger hard drive and is less likely to get messed up by my lack of luck with technology.
I've learned my lesson after too many mishaps and everything is backed up on that thing. Plus my laptop is older and used so I'm prepared for it to die like my other one did. I was not prepared for the loss of my mp3 player though. I'm really hoping that it can be fixed and soon.
In better news I started a new short story and started imputing the details into this story organizing software I have. I'm becoming very fond of this program because it's so helpful in helping you plan out stories. It's called StorYBook and free to download and use.
