I've spent most of the weekend focusing on personal stuff and very little work has been done on my current work in progress. Which I guess is fine, it's driving me crazy and I'm on the verge of killing off one of the main characters because they're bugging me. I'm getting like nowhere on it.
So back to my personal stuff. I now have most of the things needed for Thanksgiving, no last second shopping spree looking for a turkey the day before for me this year. It's a record that we're ready like two weeks ahead of time. Sadly this year we won't have our usual guests but I'm sure it will still be a nice holiday.
I'm working on finishing off the gift I'm making for my guy because our anniversary is very very soon. I still can't believe we've been together for so long. Soon it will also be a wedding anniversary, in a couple years anyway, and I'm still a little confused about if we'll celebrate being together from the start or from the time we became officially married. I guess it doesn't matter.
Speaking of the wedding, I've been looking at dresses again. There are so many that I like, it's a good thing I have time to narrow it all down. I'll also have to wait until I'm back in shape and try them on. Just because it looks nice doesn't mean it will look nice on me. I have decided I'm not going to go with a strapless dress because I'm not a huge fan of them.
The rest of my time was spent doing general running around paying bills, groccery shopping, and the oven is now officially fixed.
Tomorrow I'll tackle the cleaning so on Monday I can focus on my story. Perhaps the time away will cause me to look at it with new eyes and some of the problems will be resolved.
My oven is broken and it's really bugging me. It's one of the inside burners so thankfully it's just a matter of getting a new one and putting it in. We called and ordered the part and just used the BBQ while we waited for it to come in. We don't use the oven much during the summer anyway.
But now it's been a few months and it's almost Thanksgiving, I can't BBQ a turkey ( well I guess I could but it won't be edible). We called a couple times and were told it just hadn't come in. Last week we called and found out they hadn't ordered the part, someone messed up and took down all the information but hadn't put it through. Oh and as an added bonus the price they gave us was wrong...like a $40 difference wrong.
So I called around trying to get a better price and thankfully I did. I just have to wait one more week and then I can cook and bake in my oven again. I really hope that this time it works out.
Here's a short update on what's going on in my life. It's not really worth too much detail right now so it's in point form, plus I like bullet lists.
- It sort of feels like the seasons changed overnight because yesterday it was too hot and now it's too cold. There was no middle to it at all.
- There's some drama going on around me and I really don't want to deal with it. Mainly because I can't really do anything to fix it and I should be focusing on more important things.
- Like I said it's going on around me, it's technically not my drama and I hate that it's effecting me.
- I still can't believe it's September already. How does time fly like this?
- I'm back on my wedding diet plan..so far so go.
- A defendant on one of the television court shows has that same name as me and it's kinda freaking me out to keep hearing my name ( first and last) being said.
- I'm freelance gig hunting again because a job fell through on me.
- I started a new story/novel. I now need to figure out what I'm going to do about NaNo.
This November I will be join many other writers attempting to write a 50,000 word novel in the span of a month, or as some call it NaNo. Check out NaNoWriMo.org to find out what it's all about.
This year will be my fourth year participating and hopeful this will be the year that I actually finish on time. My inner editor always acts up during NaNo and I'll get caught up in editing as I go which throws me off.
So I'm starting my prep early this year. I'm re-reading one of my favorite writing books, Novelist's Boot Camp by Todd A. Stone. That should help me kick the ass of my inner editor and critic so they shut up until December when I can actually start editing.
So much is going on in October typically I don't get a chance to do any prep. And although you can't start any of your novel before November 1st it is a good idea to get yourself ready for it.
I'm also going to be investing in a lot of caffeine.
I spent the morning trying to finish all my housework so I can spend the rest of the day and maybe even the rest of the weekend working on my current project. I'm one of those people who sees something that has to be done and it distracts them from what they're doing.
But I also ended up cleaning up my laptop's desktop, changing the wallpaper, and then adding my current desktop wallpaper as the background image for my twitter account. I'm now in the process of clearing out some of my bookmarks. There are a lot of them that aren't needed anymore or don't work. Plus I'm sorting them so that all my research sites are together, my writing, and so on. Makes it easier when you're looking for a specific site.
I've been trying to eliminate the clutter in the hopes that it will make me more productive.
For some reason every time I try to launch StorYBook it crashes my laptop. It's kind of odd because it worked fine a couple days ago when I last used it. So I'm not sure if it's a laptop problem or a software problem. I'm gonna have to ask my tech guy to look at it.
In other news it's pretty windy around my place right now. We had make sure everything on the back deck and front porch that could blow away was either put in the shed or secured. I've learned my lesson when it comes to high winds. So I guess soon the rain is going to come. Which is fine I guess.
I was planning on working and then having a mini movie marathon with the family tonight.
Now I just have to figure out what to make for dinner.
I'm one of the people who got sucked into the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer. Yes, I know I'm in my twentysomething years and really the books are for young adults. Who cares? A book you enjoy is a book you enjoy and I was reading books meant for adults when I was younger so why can't it work both ways?
Anyway, moving along.
I had read the first chapter of Midnight Sun that was released on the author's website and it looked good. So I was pretty happy to hear that it was going to be finished and published. ( For those who don't know it's "Twilight" retold from Edward's point of view.)
Then last week someone leaked the first twelve chapters online which prompted Stephenie Meyer to write a message saying how bad she was taking this and that at this point she wasn't able to finish Midnight Sun because of it. She also posted the chapters on her website.
It's understandable. I know that when I'm upset about something my writing suffers, especially if my current work in progress is the cause of the upset.
But I must admit I'm a little disappointed. I read the first twelve chapters and (mostly) enjoyed them. I hope really hope she changes her mind.
At least I have the movie to look forward to.
